IQNA – The broadcast of the TV series “Muawiya” has been banned on the MBC Iraq network.

The TV Series ‘Muawiya’ has been banned in Iraq.

Iraq’s Communications and Media Commission (CMC) announced on Saturday the ban on broadcasting the TV show.

“The ban decision is based on the legal grant under Legislative Order 65 of 2004 in force, and in commitment to its responsibility to regulate the media sector and ensure that media content is consistent with the national and professional standards adopted in Iraq,” the Commission said in a statement.

The statement highlighted that “broadcasting works of a controversial historical nature may lead to the incitement of sectarian debates, which threatens societal peace and affects the social fabric, especially during the month of Ramadan.”

The CMC called on “all media institutions to adhere to professional standards and avoid broadcasting content that may cause sedition or sectarian incitement.”
